THE STORY
“And then what,
baby?”
Turn Around
A novel by Gary Belvin
Every night at 9:40, Wyatt opens his laptop and calls his wife.
Em wants him to tell her their story. The backyard kiss when they were twelve. The proposal the morning he got out of jail. The wedding in Maui, twelve years and several children later. She interrupts, corrects him, and laughs at things he thought she’d forgotten.
He could spend all night with her.
In the morning, there are lunches to pack, school forms he’s overlooked, and children who need more of him than he’s been giving. He’s trying to keep a family together. He keeps finding reasons to wait until tomorrow.
And every evening, Em asks what happened next.
Wyatt knows the story by heart. He doesn’t know how to tell her all of it.
