What the site measures

The site counts page views and clicks on links to Amazon and Morewhere. When a link includes campaign labels, such as which advertisement it came from, those labels can be recorded with the event. This helps Gary understand how readers find his books.

These counts do not identify individual readers. The analytics database does not store IP addresses, browser identifiers, full referring URLs, email addresses, or the rest of a page’s query string. It uses no identifying cookies or persistent visitor IDs. Daily aggregate counts are retained in the active database for up to 90 days. Backup copies expire after seven days. Repeated visits or clicks can be counted more than once.

The server necessarily receives connection information to deliver the website. Routine web access logging is disabled; limited operational information may appear in system or security logs when needed to keep the service running. The site is hosted on Amazon Web Services in the United States.
